Temporary Senior Technician HVAC

Work location: All positions are on‑site. After six months, some may be eligible for a hybrid arrangement based on job responsibilities, operational needs, supervisor approval, and Dallas College policy. Academic (Faculty) positions require an on‑campus presence, even when teaching online courses.

Pay

Hourly rate: $38.19 (Non‑Exempt, FLSA).

Schedule

Full‑time, 40 hours per week.

About the role

Senior HVAC Technician – a technical leader responsible for ensuring the reliable operation of complex HVAC systems across multiple Dallas College campuses. The role combines hands‑on technical expertise, team leadership, preventative‑maintenance planning, and a commitment to outstanding customer service.

Responsibilities

• Lead, schedule, train, and provide quality oversight for a team of HVAC technicians (≥50 % field work).
• Ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation of HVAC, chilled‑water, boiler, and air‑handling systems.
• Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain commercial HVAC equipment, including chillers, boilers, controls, sensors, and related systems.
• Oversee the College’s HVAC preventive‑maintenance program and ensure compliance with established standards, policies, and procedures.
• Analyze system performance data and recommend solutions to improve reliability, energy efficiency, and operational effectiveness.
• Assist with project planning, budget management, and prioritization of HVAC‑related capital and maintenance projects.
• Train and mentor technicians on best practices, safety standards, and preventative‑maintenance procedures.
• Document work activities in the College’s computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
• Travel throughout Dallas County using College vehicles to support multiple campus locations.
• Complete required professional‑development training and perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Eight (8) years of related HVAC experience, including three (3) years of supervisory experience.
• Commercial chiller/boiler experience (troubleshooting, repair, maintenance).
• EPA certification.
• Valid Texas driver’s license.
• Advanced knowledge of HVAC installation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting techniques.
• Experience with commercial chillers, boilers, chilled‑water systems, air‑handling units, and mechanical equipment.
• Knowledge of direct digital controls (DDC), pneumatic controls, system graphics, device calibration, programming, and troubleshooting across multiple platforms.
• Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical sensors, control devices, and metering equipment.
• Proficiency with computer‑based building automation, electrical control systems, and CMMS.
• Strong leadership, problem‑solving, and decision‑making abilities in fast‑paced operational environments.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Commitment to exceptional customer service and ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
• Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety and protection of critical infrastructure.
• Bilingual or multilingual preferred.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, twist, climb ladders, use stairs, reach overhead, crouch, kneel, or crawl; lift/push/pull 10–80 lb; drive; work in adverse weather; and perform repetitive arm/leg motions with fine manual dexterity.
