The RISD Store seeks temporary sales associates to assist students on a flexible schedule of 16–35 hours per week, including weekends.
About the role
The temporary sales clerk provides quality customer service by assisting customers, answering product-related questions, operating a cash register, stocking merchandise, applying price tags, cleaning work areas, and pre-cutting materials as needed. Associates will be cross-trained in all RISD Retail departments to provide support where required.
Responsibilities
- Provide courteous, knowledgeable customer service and answer product-related questions.
- Operate a cash register to ring up sales, receive payment, and make change accurately.
- Stock work areas by retrieving merchandise from the storeroom.
- Apply labels and price tags to merchandise and shelving units.
- Maintain cleanliness of shelves, counters, tables, and work areas.
- Pre-cut materials as needed.
Requirements
- High school diploma.
- Previous retail experience.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with multicultural competencies for a diverse environment.
- Ability to cross-train in other RISD Auxiliary Services departments (e.g., Mail Room).
- Proven ability to interact with a diverse community.
Preferred Qualifications
- Art and design background with knowledge of art supply application and contemporary art/design history.
- Computer experience.

Schedule
