Temporary Recreation Assistant- Homeschool Programming
About the Role
Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is adding a Temporary Recreation Assistant to the team. This position will be based at Eastway Regional Recreation Center and will assist with providing structured recreation and enrichment activities for youth ages 5 – 17 years old enrolled in Eastway’s homeschool programming. Specific duties will include recreation program facilitation, youth engagement activities, parent communications, and curriculum support. The selected candidate may also assist with activities and events in other program areas as needed. This role will be crucial in ensuring a safe, engaging, and educational environment that complements academic learning with physical activity, creative expression, and social development.
The preferred candidate would be creative and possess strong interpersonal skills to support homeschool families and deliver meaningful recreation experiences. This temporary role will be scheduled between the hours of 9:00am – 2:00pm, Monday through Friday.

Responsibilities
- Provide customer service and handling of funds in a recreation center or park facility through telephone, emails, website, social media, and walk-in patrons for information, program registration, center daily use, and rentals.
- Ensure safety of participants/spectators and administer first aid when necessary.
- Enforce rules and regulations.
- Collect fees and take registrations for recreational programs and facility rentals.
- Assist in light maintenance of facilities and recreational areas.
- Referee at various sports activities; provide services as timekeeper, scorekeeper, or line-person at games.
- Assist with various recreational programs for all ages.
- Handle inquiries and complaints from the public.
- Assist with special events and field trips.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver’s License and County Driving Privileges.
- CPR/First Aid certification.
- General knowledge of various computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience with homeschool programs, camps, or structured youth enrichment activities highly preferred.
- Ability to facilitate lesson plans, recreation rotations, and enrichment activities across multiple age groups.

Schedule
This temporary role will be scheduled between the hours of 9:00am – 2:00pm, Monday through Friday.
