About the Role

Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is adding a Temporary Recreation Assistant to the team at Eastway Regional Recreation Center. This position will assist with planning and directing recreation and leisure programs, activities, and events for children ages 2 to 6 years old in our Child Watch program. Responsibilities include child supervision, activity engagement, safety and incident response, and ensuring a positive customer experience for all visitors. This role may also assist with activities and events in other program areas as needed.

Child Watch operates on a structured schedule: Monday-Thursday (8:00am-12:00pm and 4:30pm-7:30pm), Friday (8:00am-12:00pm), and Saturday (9:00am-12:00pm). The selected candidate’s schedule will be within these times based on program needs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide customer service and handle funds in a recreation center or park facility through telephone, emails, website, social media, and in-person interactions for information, program registration, center daily use, and rentals.
  • Ensure safety of participants/spectators and administer first aid when necessary.
  • Enforce rules and regulations.
  • Collect fees and take registrations for recreational programs and facility rentals.
  • Assist in light maintenance of facilities and recreational areas.
  • Referee at various sports activities; provide services as timekeeper, scorekeeper, or line-person at games.
  • Assist with various recreational programs for all ages.
  • Handle inquiries and complaints from the public.
  • Assist with special events and field trips.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver’s License and County Driving Privileges.
  • CPR/First Aid certification.
  • General knowledge of various computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional experience and/or completed coursework in early childhood education and/or recreation.
  • Activity programming experience for pre-school/early elementary school populations.
