Kitsap Mental Health Services (KMHS) is seeking a Temporary PRN Nurse Consultant to support the reopening of our Youth Inpatient Unit (YIU). This role focuses on strengthening nursing practice, clinical workflows, and staff readiness before services resume. The work includes consultation, training development, and process improvement across the unit.

Responsibilities

  • Nursing group curriculum development
  • Provide input and assistance with training for new conflict resolution processes
  • Provide input and assistance toward cultural development for the unit environment
  • Cultural coaching and problem solving for nurses as part of the YIU team
  • Participate in a re-design process (if warranted) of the Restraint and Seclusion paperwork and documentation processes to meet WAC requirements
  • Provide input and potentially develop training materials for referral processing and admission documentation for nurses and the unit as a whole
  • Development of role delineation for nurses and others on the unit
  • Any other responsibilities appropriate to the position and not specifically listed in the job description

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in nursing
  • Five (5) years’ nursing experience, with at least two years in a behavioral health environment
  • Previous experience developing nursing curriculum and/or training nursing staff
  • Active and unencumbered Registered Nurse license in Washington State (active and unencumbered multistate practical nurse license accepted with additional training requirements)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing
  • Prior experience as a nurse manager or charge nurse

Performance Requirements

Knowledge

  • Maintain a working knowledge and skill in verbal de-escalation skills as outlined in agency approved de-escalation training and other agency-mandated trainings
  • Maintain knowledge of current nursing practices, as well as WAC and RCW requirements for Evaluation and Treatment Centers

  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other employees, clients, organizations, and the public
  • Communicates clearly and concisely

Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement nursing related curriculum
  • Demonstrated ability to work on projects independently, process varied information, reach appropriate decisions, and be creative
  • Demonstrate ability to interact with supervisor and peers and subordinates using numerous forms of communication effectively (including Microsoft programs, email, Zoom, texting, scheduling and other software applications)

Employees approved for remote work must maintain a safe, secure, and professional workspace with reliable internet, ensure confidentiality and compliance with KMHS policies (including HIPAA), and remain fully available and responsive during scheduled work hours.

Work Environment

  • Remote worksite, office

Mental/Physical Requirements

  • Sit, stand, and walk for extended periods
  • Lift, carry, push, and pull: up to 10 pounds (frequently) and up to 20 pounds (occasionally)
  • Use hands and arms for reaching, handling, and manipulation, including reaching above shoulder level
  • Visual acuity and peripheral vision sufficient to read written materials and observe surroundings
  • Hearing sufficient to communicate effectively

Pay

$42.87 – $54.66 per hour

Schedule

Remote 90%, Onsite 10% in Bremerton, WA
