About the role

This position reports to the Patrol Sergeant and enforces laws, investigates complaints and incidents, maintains order, identifies criminal activity, and apprehends and arrests offenders to ensure safety and security on all institutional properties. This is a sworn law enforcement position under the general direction of a ranking officer or supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Provides protection of life, property, and the preservation of peace and good order and provides emergency aid to the institutional community
  • Performs preliminary and follow-up investigations to solve crimes, identify suspects and victims, apprehend criminals, and document case information
  • Engages in problem solving, threat mitigation, and conflict resolution for a wide range of issues and incidents involving citizens, groups, campus entities, government agencies, businesses, leaders, and others
  • Ensures the safe and orderly flow of traffic on institutional roadways and enforces traffic laws
  • Provides personal safety and crime prevention education to institutional community

Qualifications

  • Completed 60 College Credits at time of application
  • Wisconsin Certified Law Enforcement Officer or Certifiable upon appointment
  • Associate’s degree in criminal justice at time of application (preferred)
  • Bilingual, preferably in Spanish, Hmong, Somali, or Oneida (preferred)
  • Experience in Law Enforcement or Security Operations (preferred)
  • Physical Qualifications: Ability to maintain the strength, stamina, dexterity and overall physical fitness required for the performance of duties; Ability to be on foot for ten or more hours; Possess the ability to take defensive measures in the event of a physical assault

Benefits

Hourly salary range of $27.00 - $35.00. This position will earn an additional $0.80 per hour for all weekend hours worked, as well as for all hours worked between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. This position is not exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
