Temporary Meter Service Representative

This is a temporary position for the collection season.
Job Purpose
The key accountabilities include:
- Meter reading activities including shut off meters and field collection activity.
- Terminating service and/or collecting customer payments.
- General shop work such as housekeeping, junking, shipping, deliveries/pickups, etc.
- Absorb and assist in 2-person assignments as needed.
- Assist with pipe fitting up to 2 inches.
- Drive various-sized company vehicles.
- Handle substances considered hazardous under U.S. and Massachusetts laws.
- Interact with internal departments and company employees to ensure an efficient process.
- Promote a culture of teamwork, collaboration, and efficient resource utilization.
- Respond to emergency call outs and work extended and planned hours when necessary.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Good mechanical aptitude and ability.
- High degree of dependability.
- Capable of exercising good judgment.
- Ability to perform physically demanding job-related activities.
- Flexible schedule including shifts, weekends, evenings, and holidays.
- Work with 25-2500 stairs, walk 2 to 6 miles, and kneel or bend for 20-60 percent of the day.
- Work within confined areas at times and in inclement weather and temperature extremes.
- Develop positive customer relations; anticipate, identify, respond to customer needs, and facilitate customer loyalty.
- Able to drive a company car / large van or truck on a daily basis.
- Valid and clean driver's license and approved driver of Company vehicles.
- Pass Company physical and qualifying tests to enter Department.
- Successfully pass a criminal background check and required job assessment tests.
- Pass the Field Assessment Test.

Please be advised that due to the nature of this position, incumbents are subject to federal Drug & Alcohol safety regulations governing US Department of Transportation ("DOT") covered positions, including the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and Pipeline Hazardous Material Safety Administration (PHMSA).
As such, the Company’s testing programs and policies regarding the use of federally prohibited drugs or alcohol, for recreational or medical purposes, will remain in effect for these safety-sensitive, DOT covered positions.
Many of the terms and conditions of employment for this position are defined by a collective bargaining agreement that the Company has with a local union. Newly hired employees are bound by the terms of the collective bargaining agreement as well as other agreements between the Company and the local union.
