Temporary Maintenance & Ops Assistant- Stevens Creek Nature Preserve
Position Summary
Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is adding a Temporary Maintenance & Operations Assistant to the East Region Nature Preserve Maintenance team!
This position will work within our Nature Preserves and Natural Resources Division, and the successful candidate must be willing to work in all weather conditions in a wooded, natural setting where wildlife is a protected and valued resource.
Essential Functions
- Perform cleaning services to restrooms and indoor rental facilities
- Open park gates and remove trash
- Affords assistance to other maintenance staff in repair duties
- Performs general grounds keeping such as picking up trash and debris, removing limbs, blowing leaves off sidewalks and greenways
- Performs general laborer-type work with equipment such as power mowers, chainsaws, brush cutters, edgers, and clippers, etc.
- Performs related work as required
Minimum Qualifications
- No experience required
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Combination of relevant education and relevant experience accepted
- N/A
- Requires a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver’s License and County Driving Privileges
- General knowledge of applicable computer programs
- Knowledge of light equipment used in maintenance, grounds keeping, and construction
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions applicable to safe operation of this equipment
- Knowledge of basic tools used in maintenance and construction work
- Skills operating a chainsaw and brush cutter, blowers, sweepers and other assigned equipment
- Skills performing heavy manual labor, sometimes in adverse weather conditions
- Abilities adapting to major changes in work responsibilities or environments; establishing and maintaining good working relationships; clearly conveying information and ideas through a variety of media to individuals or groups in a manner that engages the audience and helps them understand and retain the information provided; contributing to team success; actively participating as a member of a team to move the team toward the completion of goals; consistently maintaining high levels of activity or productivity; operating with vigor, effectiveness, and determination over extended periods of time
