TEMPORARY Limited Commissioned Ranger – Vega State Park

About the role

This is a temporary position (9 months or less) with a starting pay rate of $18.00 per hour. Employment starts May through September or October, 2026.

Responsibilities

• Issuing citations for violations
• Conducting patrols of park areas by vehicle (OHVs, snowmobiles, bicycles, etc)
• Responding to emergencies and resolving visitor complaints
• Completing reports and may be required to appear in court
• Aiding in all areas of daily park operations which may include: revenue/fee collection, verification, basic accounting, and deposits
• Assisting with general park or facility maintenance such as cleaning of public facilities (restrooms, vault toilets, campsites, picnic areas, trails, etc)
• Providing visitor services operations which may involve education and interpretive programs
• Assisting with lake, river, and backcountry recreation parks as needed
• Performing other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Minimum qualifications: 21 years of age or older, valid driver's license, acceptable driving record, and successful completion of a comprehensive background check
• Conditions of employment: availability to work various shifts including evenings, weekends, and holidays; willingness to work outdoors in all seasons and weather conditions; ability to lift 50 pounds repeatedly; completion of required Colorado State Park training; possession of valid current First Aid and CPR certifications; ability to work with limited supervision and within a team; strong interpersonal communication skills; basic computer skills; preference for a Natural Resources degree or similar education; previous experience handling money and working with the public

Physical requirements

• Significant use of arms and legs, moving whole body, climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, handling materials
• Ability to perceive color differences and hear verbal and radio communications

Housing

Housing may be available to applicants that are applying from out of the area/state. Please indicate if you require a room in the seasonal house.
