About the Role

Under limited supervision, performs painting and industrial coating applications on equipment and products. May require being transported by fixed-wing, rotor, or other approved project transportation. Employee is subject to non-continuous multi-shift work schedules and 24/7 call-out. Employee is committed to achieving the highest goals of excellence in serving customers and working with fellow employees. May direct the work of others in the performance of duties.

Responsibilities

  • Lays out and performs new and maintenance exterior or interior finish quality painting on tanks, power plants, microwave stations, fences, substations, transformers, switching equipment, power poles, and light poles using brushes, rollers, spray guns, and related equipment.
  • Applies metallized coatings using the thermal spray process.
  • Performs complete surface preparation prior to coating or painting, using paint removal equipment, including sand and shot blasting, scrapers, etc.
  • Mixes paints and coatings to meet specified requirements.
  • Lays out and performs incidental parking lot restriping.
  • Orders and maintains stock of paints, coatings, and supplies.
  • Prepares work reports and field/shop environmental paint and related product usage reports.
  • Ensures personal safety and the safety of others; accomplishes all work in a cost-effective manner.
  • Performs accurate cost estimates and project schedules on job-related work.
  • Performs related work as required, as workloads vary and are adjusted by supervisory personnel.
  • Works safely and efficiently in the performance of job duties.
  • Maintains effective working relationships with other employees, customers, and the public.
  • Understands and carries out oral and written instructions and completes applicable paperwork accurately and legibly.
  • May be required to work a reasonable amount of overtime.

Requirements

  • 4 years of experience as a 2nd Class Painter or General Mechanic in Mechanical Services, or equivalent experience.
  • Required to have all necessary hand tools to perform job duties.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment to achieve common goals.
  • Considerable courtesy and cooperation are required to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and customers.
  • Ability to employ safe working practices under all working conditions.
  • Ability to understand, carry out, and explain detailed oral and written instructions, schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and perform work functions without direct supervision.
  • Ability to direct and coordinate the work of others.
  • Ability to work under varying schedules, imposed deadlines, and emergency conditions.
  • Ability to understand job costs and work within a budget allocation.
  • Must have a valid Arizona Operator’s license and DOT certification.
  • Required to become certified on various pieces of equipment, including personnel lifting equipment.

Testing and Certifications

  • Appropriate respirator medical certification, fit test, and training required.
