Temporary Fisheries Research Scholar

Temporary position based in Morehead City, NC.

About the role

The Fisheries Research Scholar will analyze and interpret previously collected telemetry-tag data on reef fishes within a fine-scale positioning study. The scholar will also write manuscripts on the results of these analyses for the peer-reviewed literature.

Responsibilities

• Analyze acoustic telemetry data from marine or freshwater fish populations.
• Use Innovasea FATHOM software for two-dimensional fish positioning.
• Visualize and interpret three-dimensional movement data from telemetry-tagged fish.
• Develop Bayesian multistate models for simulation and parameter estimation.
• Write and publish peer-reviewed manuscripts based on research findings.

Requirements

• Ph.D. (or relevant terminal degree), or a relevant Master’s degree with at least 5 years of formal postdegree professional work experience.
• Demonstrated proficiency programming in R.
• Knowledge of fisheries ecology, movement ecology, and population dynamics.
• Strong quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Valid driver’s license (NC Driver’s License required).

Skills

• Experience analyzing acoustic telemetry data.
• Experience using Innovasea FATHOM software for two-dimensional fish positioning.
• Experience visualizing and interpreting three-dimensional movement data.
• Experience developing Bayesian multistate models.
• Experience writing and publishing peer-reviewed manuscripts.

Pay

$33.65 per hour.

Schedule

Up to 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday.
