Temporary Faculty Pool, Digital Media Arts- Audio Engineering

California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) invites applications for a pool of part-time teaching appointments in the Audio Engineering Degree Program within the Digital Media Arts Department. About the Program

The B.A. in Audio Engineering is a hands-on, professionally oriented program designed for students pursuing careers in studio recording, music technology, live sound reinforcement, and sound design for television, film, and live theatre. Students engage in tracking, mixing, and mastering audio projects, including multi-track studio albums, EPKs, live performance recordings, television documentaries, PSAs, instructional films, and client-based projects for nonprofits, community groups, and corporate partners.

Position Details

The temporary faculty pool remains continuously open, with positions filled as needed based on student enrollment and funding. Candidates may be required to begin teaching on short notice. The Fall term runs from late August to mid-December, and the Spring term from mid-January to mid-May. Summer session teaching opportunities may also be available.

Responsibilities

• Teach a diverse student population, including first-generation college students.
• Hold one office hour per week for every three credit units of course teaching assignment.

Qualifications

Required

• A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Audio, Sound Design, Music Technology, or Media Arts.
• Relevant professional experience in the subject of the assigned course(s).
• Experience teaching adult learners from diverse ages, socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds.

Preferred

• Prior teaching experience at the college or university level, with evidence of strong teaching.
• A Master’s degree or MFA in a field relevant to the curriculum or a related discipline.
• Experience teaching online.

Employment Requirements

• Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. A conditional offer may be rescinded if disqualifying information is revealed.
• Per the California State University (CSU) Out-of-State Employment Policy, employment is restricted to work performed within California.
• Applicants must comply with the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA) as a mandated reporter.

Pay

Initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background. As of July 2024, the salary ranges for lecturer ranks are:

• Lecturer A: $5,507 – $6,677 per month
• Lecturer B: $6,221 – $13,224 per month
• Lecturer C: $6,825 – $14,523 per month
• Lecturer D: $8,593 – $15,211 per month
