About the Role

The department manages and oversees the day-to-day functions of homeless residential facilities, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for clients and residents. This temporary role supports the Clothing Room and Reception, with a special focus on the Back-to-School season. The position reports to the Director of Operations and assists with receiving donations, sorting and displaying seasonally appropriate apparel, and coordinating the Back-to-School drive for backpacks and school supplies. Additionally, the role includes covering reception during meal breaks and staff absences.

This position is initially temporary and expected to last 1–3 months. Temporary employees are eligible for 40 hours of sick leave.

Schedule

Preferred schedule: Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM (40 hours per week). Part-time candidates available Monday–Thursday from 12:00 PM–5:00 PM and all day Friday may also be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Clothing Room
    • Support the coordinator in maintaining clothing inventory, displaying, and stocking items following a seasonal schedule.
    • Assist in receiving, organizing, and distributing school supplies.
    • Assemble emergency clothing packages and communicate with reception as needed.
    • Greet donors with a friendly and professional attitude and receive donations.
    • Provide direction to volunteers, interns, and vocational program participants.
  • Reception
    • Serve as backup support for the reception area, ensuring professional and courteous customer service to clients, visitors, and community partners.
    • Answer and route incoming multi-line telephone calls, take messages, and direct inquiries to appropriate staff or departments.
    • Receive, sort, and distribute incoming mail and deliveries; assist with outgoing mail as needed.
    • Greet visitors, schedule appointments, or direct them to the appropriate staff or department.
    • Facilitate the distribution of emergency assistance items in accordance with agency procedures.

Requirements

  • Demonstrates situational awareness, serving as the first point of contact for visitors and supporting high-needs populations in the clothing room.
  • Experience interacting sensitively and respectfully with others.
  • Ability to serve as a positive role model to volunteers and resident-clients.
  • Willingness to honor the leadership, chain of command, standards, and ministry objectives of the organization.
  • Committed Christian with a passion for "restoring hope and changing lives."

Working Conditions

  • Requires working with a diverse population continuously.
  • Environment may be odorous due to lack of personal hygiene and intoxication of guests (frequently).
  • Requires sustained high energy, stamina, and the ability to move about all facilities regularly.
  • May be exposed to unsanitary conditions.
  • Must be able to see, hear, smell, and speak clearly.
