About the role
Facilities Services supports the University of Chicago's mission by maintaining and enhancing the campus environment and providing exceptional client service.
Responsibilities
- Manages contracted services including pest control, elevator maintenance, recycling, refuse collection, window washing, handheld radios, uniforms, and custodial services.
- Maintains and enforces service contracts, monitors SLAs with clients, and conducts periodic inspections.
- Serves as the primary point of contact for vendors and clients, addressing issues and ensuring quality of service.
- Oversees the coordination of services for events and project cleaning, and schedules project cleaning services.
- Manages exempt and union staff, prioritizing and scheduling work, inspecting work for quality, and coordinating emergency work.
- Ensures compliance with administrative processes, including HR practices, procurement, and inventory management.
- Uses computer technology and supports University policies and standard operating procedures.
- Prepares and manages budgets, reviews major renovation projects, and coordinates with architects, contractors, and building users.
- Communicates effectively with clients, vendors, and Facilities Services staff, responding to emergencies and working long hours as needed.
- Identifies and recommends corrective actions for substandard conditions and services.
- Interprets service needs and gaps to recommend appropriate services to colleagues and vendors.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent, required.
- Associate degree preferred.
- Minimum of six years related experience, required.
- Proactive identification of substandard conditions and services, and recommending corrective actions.
- Ability to interpret needs and gaps in service to collaborate with and recommend appropriate services to colleagues and vendors.
- Valid driver’s license with a passing motor vehicle background check, required.
Skills
- Reading and interpreting documents such as contracts, blueprints, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Writing routine reports and correspondence.
- Effective communication in writing and speaking with customers, vendors, and employees.
- Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
- Knowledge of modern maintenance management techniques.
- Strong management and scheduling skills.
- Customer service orientation.
- Oral and written communication skills with trades personnel, professionals, faculty, students, staff, and administrators.
- Problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
- Technical knowledge of computer applications and maintenance management systems.
