About the role

The Department of Art + Design in the College of Arts & Sciences at Utah State University invites applications for a full-time, 9-month Temporary Assistant Professor of Art History and Visual Culture for the 2026-27 academic year. This is a benefits-eligible, non-tenure-track position with a start date of August 1, 2026. Renewal may be possible based on performance, departmental needs, and funding.

Responsibilities

  • Teach a 3/3 course load of undergraduate courses
  • Teach online sections of the art history survey
  • Teach upper-division undergraduate courses in the candidate’s area of specialization
  • Employ inclusive, effective, and engaging teaching practices for majors and non-majors
  • Incorporate campus resources into teaching
  • Contribute to departmental service appropriate to a visiting appointment

Qualifications

  • Required Qualifications: PhD in Art History, Visual Culture, or a closely related field completed by the start date
  • Preferred Qualifications: Experience teaching both survey courses and upper-division undergraduate courses, Experience with online teaching, Teaching interests or expertise that expand the department’s curricular offerings, including global, interdisciplinary, or historically underrepresented areas of art and visual culture
