Assistant Professor of Art History
About the role
The Department of Art and Art History at Wesleyan University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Art History starting July 1, 2027. The position requires expertise in pre-modern Islamic Art, with preference given to scholars specializing in South, Central, and/or West Asian art. Candidates from art and architectural history and archaeology are encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities
- Teach 2 courses per semester
- Advise and mentor students
- Carry out a program of research
- Participate in faculty governance
Requirements
Minimum qualifications include a Ph.D. in Art History or a related field by the time of appointment, with a successful candidate potentially hired as an Instructor if they do not have a Ph.D. in hand at the time of appointment but will complete the Ph.D. in Art History or a related field within one year of hire.
Qualifications
Candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching and research, and a successful publication record is expected for promotion.
