TEMP - Supervising Counselor (ISP - Blythe)

About the role

The Supervising Counselor at Amity Foundation is responsible for overseeing the delivery of rehabilitative programming services within the Integrated Substance Use Disorder Treatment Program (ISUDTP). This role involves supervising approximately six AOD Counseling/Peer Navigator staff, evaluating their performance, providing coaching and training, and ensuring compliance with contractual requirements.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate staff performance and provide applicable coaching and training
• Track and monitor contractor staff performance, including implementing corrective measures as needed
• Audit and regularly monitor counseling staff progress towards obtaining and maintaining a valid AOD certification
• Supervise the orientation and intake processes of all participants newly assigned to programming
• Approve and monitor SUD relapse prevention/CBI action plan development
• Track all participants (names, counselor assignments, readiness to change, progress on plans, program stage, etc.)
• Provide training, oversight, and monitoring of all ARMS documentation to ensure compliance with the agreement
• Train AOD Counseling staff, including OMCP Mentors
• Coordinate and supervise OMCP Mentors assigned to the program
• Support and resources to ensure OMCP Mentors complete the work-experience portion of certification, including practice of all twelve Core Functions
• Verify and record each OMCP Mentor’s monthly internship hours by the 5th of each month using the CDCR OMCP Verification of Internship Hours form in ARMS
• Work collaboratively with CDCR/CCHCS headquarters, local institutions, and CDCR-contracted staff
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Education and Experience: Certified as an AOD Counselor with an organization approved by DHCS and two (2) years of experience as a certified AOD counselor
• Preferred: None

Skills/Abilities

• Understanding of causes, symptoms, and effects of substance abuse
• Excellent organization, leadership, and time management skills
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to multitask
• Knowledge of contractual requirements of ISUDTP is essential
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and communication skills
• Operational knowledge of MS Office Suite and ARMS
• Ability to maintain sensitivity and objectivity under pressures generated by association with substance abuse treatment participants
• Ability to demonstrate ethical behavior in order to maintain professional standards and safeguard the participants
• Ability to protect and maintain program participants' health, safety, welfare, and confidentiality of records and participant information

• Physical Requirements: Occasionally adjusts or moves objects up to 50lbs. in all directions, constantly remains in a stationary position often standing or sitting for prolonged periods, frequently walks on hard or uneven surfaces, occasionally requires communication verbally and in written form, uses all types of vision, assesses the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned, occasionally required to climb, bend, stretch, reach or stoop, required to wear comfortable and location appropriate clothing and shoes
• Mental Demands: Ability to change directions as priorities shift, ability to thrive in an environment that requires adapting to changing circumstances, ability to cope with occasionally difficult or temperamental students and faculty, ability to cope with mental and emotional stress related to the position

Work Conditions

• Generally, in an indoor setting
• Occasionally works in outdoor elements such as precipitation, snow and wind
• Work is in an incarcerated setting
• Environmental Conditions: Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but can be loud, temperature in the work environment is generally moderate however can range from hot to cold seasonally, seldom may be exposed to non-lethal chemical agents as administered in necessary use of force security instances
