About the role
This is a temporary classroom paraeducator position limited to a maximum of 15 hours per week (all jobs/hours combined). The role holds no benefits such as health insurance or temporary leave. Candidates are not required to meet the minimum qualifications typically required for a temp aide, such as 48 hours of college education or passing the ParaPro test.
Temp Aides support the delivery of educational programs in elementary or secondary schools by assisting teachers with individual or groups of students. They play a vital role in today’s classroom, helping to link academic assistance, communication, and understanding between the school, teacher, families, and community.
Responsibilities
- Spend a large portion of time in the classroom assisting students with lessons under the direct supervision of the classroom teacher.
- Reinforce concepts for individuals or small groups of students, demonstrating a genuine commitment to helping children learn.
- Work with teachers to modify activities to meet individual student’s needs.
- Assist teachers in monitoring, collecting data, and maintaining records regarding student performance and progress.
- Help maintain learning areas, learning centers, instructional materials, and appropriate educational technology and resources.
- Display patience and understanding while managing children in demanding situations while maintaining order.
- Understand and be sensitive to the obstacles facing the children under supervision, including cultural background, language proficiency, mobility, and family dynamics.
- Teach self-help, problem-solving, and coping skills.
- Recognize individual learning styles and adapt to the characteristics of the learners served.
- Challenge students to fulfill their potential.
- Document parent contacts and inform appropriate personnel, particularly for students requiring supplemental services.
- Be an active part of an educational team supporting the students served.
- Apply knowledge of various philosophies and theories of education, as well as skills in working within a multidisciplinary context.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by a supervisor.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Certain positions may require passing the PCP (Physical Capacity to Perform) test based on assigned duties at the specific school.
