About the role
Perform numerous functions including processing deposits, withdrawals, posting to general ledger accounts, cashing negotiable items, processing loan payments, savings bonds, and cashier’s checks while promoting the bank’s products and services and providing excellent customer service.
Responsibilities
- Assume responsibility for the efficient, effective, and accurate performance of Teller functions.
- Represent the bank in a courteous and professional manner.
- Receive and process deposits and loan payments.
- Cash checks and other negotiable instruments for clients; examine documents for endorsements and negotiability.
- Process transfers between accounts, traveler’s checks, official checks, and money orders.
- Process credit card cash advances.
- Verify and balance cash daily; detect and resolve discrepancies promptly.
- Offer other Bank products to meet customer needs and strengthen relationships.
- Maintain a proof-error rate of no more than one within a 30-day period.
- Follow Teller procedures consistently and adhere to compliance requirements.
- Ensure client requests and inquiries are promptly resolved.
- Operate online teller terminal and maintain privacy of customer information.
- Assist area personnel as required and with training or orientation as needed.
- Keep supervisor informed of area activities and any problems or concerns.
- Complete required reports and records accurately and promptly.
- Attend meetings and training classes that may be held on weekdays, evenings, and/or Saturdays.
- Perform night drop functions and related clerical duties as assigned.
- Ensure work areas are clean, secure, and well maintained.
- Cross-sell Bank products and services.
Performance Measurements
- Teller functions are performed efficiently, effectively, and accurately in accordance with established policies, standards, and security procedures.
- Cash is balanced and discrepancies promptly resolved; a balancing record that meets established standards is maintained.
- Good business relations exist with clients; client problems and inquiries are courteously and promptly resolved.
- Good working relationships and coordination exist with area personnel and management; assistance is provided as needed.
- Required reports and records are accurate, complete, and timely.
- Consistently develop new client relationships and strengthen existing ones by identifying opportunities to sell Bank products and services.
- The Bank’s professional reputation is maintained and conveyed.
Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- At least one year of related experience or cash handling required; previous Teller experience preferred.
- Good communication, math, and typing skills.
- Professional appearance, dress, and attitude.
- Ability to operate related computer applications and business equipment including adding machine, typewriter, copy machine, coin and money counting machines, and telephone.
Skills
- Understanding of Bank operations preferred.
- Mentor Program DNA Standard/UX.
- Completion of all required training and webinars in 90-day plan.
- CTR/MIL understanding.
- IVIEW Product Knowledge.
- ATM Balancing.
- WITS/Wires – minimum domestic.
- Risk Management Skill.
- Dual Control Experience.
Physical Activities and Requirements
- Talking: Frequently convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly, or quickly.
- Hearing: Able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information.
- Finger Dexterity: Using primarily just the fingers to make small movements such as typing, picking up small objects, or pinching fingers together.
- Repetitive Motion: Movements frequently and regularly required using the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
- Visual Abilities: Average, ordinary visual acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents or products, or operate machinery.
- Physical Strength: Sedentary work; sitting most of the time. Exerts up to 10 to 25 lbs. of force occasionally. No hazardous or significantly unpleasant conditions.
Mental Activities and Requirements
- Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved instructions and to deal with problems involving a few variables.
- Mathematics Ability: Ability to perform basic math skills, use decimals to compute ratios, percentages, and to draw and interpret graphs.
- Language Ability: Ability to use passive vocabulary of 5,000-6,000 words; read at a slow rate; define unfamiliar words in dictionaries for meaning, spelling, and pronunciation. Ability to write complex sentences using proper punctuation and adjectives/adverbs. Ability to communicate in complex sentences using normal word order with present and past tenses and good vocabulary.
