About the role
A Teller I performs routine and intermediate branch and customer service duties, including processing deposits, withdrawals, and loan payments, while promoting the bank’s products and maintaining strong customer relations.
Responsibilities
- Receives retail and commercial checking and savings deposits, ensuring all documents are in proper form, and issues receipts.
- Cashes checks, savings withdrawals, and makes cash advances after verifying proper authorization and limits.
- Assists with night depository duties, including logging bags, processing deposits, and issuing receipts.
- May assist in opening/closing the vault and balancing vault currency and coin.
- Operates computer terminals to process account activity, determine balances, and resolve problems within given authority.
- Issues official checks, traveler’s checks, and gift cards.
- Cross-sells bank products and services, referring customers to appropriate staff.
- Performs safe deposit duties, including controlling access and assisting customers.
- Processes stop payment and hold orders, as well as loan, credit card, and installment payments.
- Balances cash drawer daily and verifies cash transactions with the vault.
- Provides customer service and resolves problems within given authority.
- Records, files, updates information, and sorts mail or reports as required.
- Answers telephones and directs callers to appropriate bank personnel.
- Processes teller work through branch capture and assists with imaging research.
- Gathers data and processes reports (e.g., currency transactions, returned items, overdrafts, callbacks).
- Processes address changes, check orders, traveler’s checks, collections, change orders, and deposit slip corrections.
- Types routine letters, reports, and forms; maintains files; copies and faxes documents; orders supplies.
- Ensures security of branch personnel and bank procedures, including opening/closing protocols.
- May prepare and verify currency shipments.
- Completes annual compliance courses and adheres to corporate policies, federal/state regulations, and laws (e.g., Bank Secrecy Act, Anti-Money Laundering Act).
- Performs other duties as required.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Work-related experience may include reception or secretarial duties in a business environment.
- Business or financial industry-related education or training.
- Intermediate knowledge of bank operations, products, services, and related laws/regulations.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills; ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Intermediate computer skills, including terminal operation, word processing, spreadsheets, and specialty software.
- Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license.
