About the Role

The Teller position is primarily responsible for accurately processing paying and receiving transactions while providing courteous, timely, and informative service to ensure customer satisfaction. Emphasis is placed on identifying clients’ needs and ensuring they receive a positive impression of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Operations:
    • Effectively execute teller banking transactions in accordance with Popular’s policies and procedures and legal/regulatory requirements.
    • Process payment and receipt of transactions for all product types and services accurately and courteously.
    • Reference the client by name in all transactions to provide personalized service.
    • Maintain a minimum amount of cash in the teller’s area and ensure cash is secured according to policies and security/safety measures.
    • Re-stock and balance assigned cash drawer, ATM(s), cash recycler(s), and vault(s) as required.
    • Assist in processing night depository bags, currency, and ATM settlements as required.
    • Act in accordance with all bank policies and regulations to ensure the branch passes assessments and audits.
  • Sales:
    • Work with the branch manager and supervisor to attain or exceed individual goals.
    • Build effective, trust-based relationships with clients by listening and uncovering their needs to gain in-depth knowledge of their financial priorities.
    • Refer products/services that are most appropriate for the client’s situation to deepen customer relationships.
    • Support marketing campaigns and product launches, leveraging sales techniques, marketing tools, and branch technology to achieve results.
    • Educate clients on self-service capabilities and encourage the use of digital service channels (e.g., smart ATM, online/mobile banking, online transfers, People Pay, Mobile Cash, Bill Pay, Digital Wallets).
    • Stay abreast of new developments and initiatives in the bank by interacting and working closely with the management team.
  • Customer Experience:
    • Promote an environment of ongoing customer feedback and continuous improvement.
    • Respond to customers requesting to update or close accounts, determine reasons for dissatisfaction, and offer possible alternatives; process account maintenances in a compliant manner.
    • Attentively listen to customers to address questions or problems; proactively prevent and resolve customer issues.
  • Risk Management:
    • Support compliance functions, including reconciliations, audits (internal/external), reporting, controls, and records management.
    • Ensure adherence to opening/closing procedures and all security protocols.
    • Promote the branch’s active involvement within the community and report all CRA-related activities to the supervisor.
    • Proactively identify fraudulent or forged documentation/activity and report such activity to supervisors.
    • Maintain confidentiality of customer information and adhere to bank policies and procedures at all times.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; anticipation of continuing education toward a degree.
  • Six months of cash handling and/or retail sales experience.
  • Must provide evidence of academic preparation or courses related to the job posting, if necessary.
  • Must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States; this position is not open to applicants who need visa sponsorship or transfer of visa sponsorship at this time.

Popular may require employees to work during and immediately after emergency situations or natural disasters, as employees are considered essential workers.
