Teller

Position Purpose

We are in the PEOPLE business and SUN’s Tellers are the “face” of our organization to members and non‑members. Our Tellers deliver extraordinary member service with each transaction and conversation with an attitude of service! In this position you are responsible for providing a variety of financial transactions at the request of our members such as processing deposits, withdrawals, loan payments, cashiers’ checks, money orders, cash advances, and balancing each day’s transactions and verifying cash totals. The role contributes ideas, process improvement and efficiencies, embraces and drives change, and supports peers and SUN’s vision and strategies.

Essential Functions and Basic Duties

• Process cash advances, travelers’ checks, cashiers’ checks, money orders, government bonds, and similar transactions.
• Disburse cash or check share withdrawals in person, by telephone, or by mail.
• Process transfers.
• Open and close computer terminal accounts daily.
• Process assigned cash and transactions and balance at end of day.
• Receive and process payroll deduction starts, stops, and increases.
• Verify transactions; monitor deposit amounts; examine documents for endorsement and negotiability; detect and resolve discrepancies promptly.
• Assume Branch ATM duty.
• Complete Currency Transaction Reports (CTR) when required and ensure CTR form is sent with outgoing wire form for cash transactions exceeding $10,000.
• Complete Unusual Activity Report Form and provide to Branch/Assistant Manager for review when necessary.
• Obtain and record required information on the sale of monetary instruments within the required threshold.
• Obtain BSA training annually.
• Operate on‑line teller terminal.
• Provide information to members (in person, by telephone, or by mail) regarding account status as authorized.
• Receive and process new member accounts and changes to existing accounts, including name and address updates.
• Inform members of Credit Union services, policies, eligibility, account types, interest and dividend rates, payroll deduction options, and related services.
• Maintain confidentiality of all member account information.
• Cross‑sell Credit Union services.

• Assure members receive extraordinary service to support the title of most trusted financial institution in the communities we serve.
• Perform tasks efficiently and accurately in accordance with established policies, standards, security procedures, and compliance policies.
• Balance monies and resolve any discrepancies promptly; maintain a balancing record that meets established standards.
• Actively develop and deepen relationships with members to improve “wallet share”.
• Deliver extraordinary member experiences.

Qualifications

• Education/Certification: High school graduate or equivalent; some college preferred.
• Previous cash handling experience is helpful.
• Knowledge of Teller policies and procedures; basic understanding of Credit Union operations.
• Experience: Abilities generally acquired on the job within 12 months.
• Skills/Abilities: Passion for serving people and providing extraordinary service; good communication and math skills; ability to operate Microsoft Office, email, and modern office equipment.
