About the role
The Teller serves as the front-line representative of the bank, providing exceptional customer service while accurately processing financial transactions. This position is responsible for building relationships with customers, identifying opportunities to meet financial needs through bank products and services, maintaining compliance with all banking regulations, and safeguarding bank assets through sound operational practices.
Responsibilities
- Customer Service - Welcome customers promptly and professionally, deliver an exceptional customer experience by actively listening and responding to customer needs; resolve routine customer inquiries and refer complex issues to the appropriate person; build lasting customer relationships that reflect the bank's commitment to personal service; represent the bank in a courteous, professional, and ethical manner.
- Transaction Processing - Accurately process deposits, withdrawals, payments, transfers, cashier's checks, money orders, and other financial transactions; verify customer identity in accordance with bank policies and applicable regulations; balance cash drawer daily while maintaining acceptable cash variances; maintain appropriate cash limits and secure cash in accordance with established procedures; process transactions efficiently while maintaining accuracy.
- Relationship Development - Identify customer needs through meaningful conversations; educate customers on products and services that may benefit them, including checking accounts, savings accounts, CDs, debit cards, digital banking, and other retail banking solutions; make referrals to branch team for lending, deposit accounts, or other financial services; participate in customer outreach activities.
- Compliance and Risk Management - Adhere to all bank policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements; comply with Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Customer Identification Program (CIP), Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), and privacy regulations; recognize and report suspicious activity according to bank policy; maintain confidentiality of customer and bank information; assist in fraud prevention by identifying unusual transactions or activity.
- Assist with ATM balancing, vault operations, night depository processing, or safe deposit box access.
- Participate in meetings, professional development, and training; support branch goals and assist teammates.
- Maintain proficiency with all technology required to perform the functions of the job.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Previous cash handling experience.
- Customer service and retail experience preferred.
- Must be able to handle confidential information with discretion, work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, and work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Must have strong customer service and interpersonal skills, excellent verbal communication skills, a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail, strong mathematical aptitude, the ability to learn banking systems and procedures, and strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Must meet standards of performance while demonstrating commitment to the job, consistency, reliability, initiative, and personal accountability.
- Must be adaptable to change and open to receiving feedback.
- Must be able to operate office equipment, computer software, and online platforms efficiently and adapt easily to changes and updates.
Work Environment
This job primarily operates in a professional office environment. It requires frequent interaction with customers and co-workers in a fast-paced setting; prolonged standing, sitting, and intermittent mental and visual concentration for computer usage is required. This position requires talking, listening, reaching, lifting, and handling with repetitive eye and hand movement. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The noise level is usually quiet to moderate.
Schedule
Hours worked are generally during normal business hours Monday – Saturday with an expectation to work at least 36 hours per week and at least 20 Saturdays per year.
