Telescope Opto-Mechanical Engineer
About the role
Systems Planning and Analysis, Inc. (SPA) delivers high-impact technical solutions to complex national security issues, with over 50 years of expertise serving government customers in the US and abroad. The Space and Intelligence Division provides professional services to the US Space Force, Combatant Commands, Intelligence Community, and NASA, including enterprise architectural assessments, systems engineering and integration, test, planning and execution, cost estimating, acquisition support, and cybersecurity. The Intelligence Programs Group (IPG) within this division offers specialized systems engineering and trusted advisory services to the Space and National Intelligence community, supporting agencies such as the NGA, NRO, and NASA. This role is based in Chantilly, VA and supports a dynamic space program office.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical expertise and systems engineering support for the development, integration, and sustainment of advanced space-based optical payloads and telescope systems.
- Serve as a key interface between government stakeholders and industry partners, facilitating collaboration across multiple vendors to improve interoperability, reduce program risk, and maximize future mission flexibility.
- Support the maturation of advanced telescope technologies.
- Manage cross-vendor interface coordination efforts.
- Contribute to the development of common engineering approaches that enhance interchangeability across future spacecraft builds.
- Apply strong technical knowledge of optical and opto-mechanical systems and systems integration principles.
- Work effectively across government, contractor, and industry organizations.
- Bring Space Domain Operations experience to support the space program office.
