About the role
Avegant is seeking an Opto-Mechanical Engineer to contribute to cutting-edge near-eye display technology. This position is ideal for a highly motivated individual with 2-6 years of experience in a design and production environment, focusing on designing the packaging and mechanisms of optics for advanced vision systems. You will work closely with mechanical engineering, optical, and industrial design teams and report to the VP of Opto-Mechanical Engineering.
Responsibilities
- Design opto-mechanical components and mechanisms to enclose, retain, and maintain alignment of optical elements within system tolerance specifications.
- Select materials and manufacturing processes based on optical alignment tolerance, manufacturing tolerances, temperature variation, and assembly requirements.
- Work with optical engineers to ensure components meet performance requirements.
- Support operations as a technical resource on optics issues.
- Support the optics development team during all engineering builds and production ramp-ups.
- Inspect parts against engineering drawings and/or electrical schematics.
- Assemble optics and mechanical prototypes from drawings.
- Conduct component and product prototype testing and documentation.
- Support the manufacturing team in bringing up automated assembly stations.
- Design, build, and debug opto-mechanical alignment and assembly stations.
- Produce design documentation packages for vendors, including optical and mechanical drawings with specifications, tolerances, and special process steps.
- Travel overseas (up to 20%).
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent experience) in mechanical engineering, optical engineering, or a related field.
- 2-6 years of experience or equivalent in both design and manufacturing of optical systems for consumer electronics products.
- Proficiency with 3D modeling and 2D drafting using SolidWorks or similar CAD software.
- Familiarity with optical design software is a plus.
