Telephone Time Host

Listen UP Radio, WIKB-FM is part of the Morgan Murphy Media company, a family-owned business based in Iron River, MI. We prioritize people and community, serving as Iron County’s communication leader.

About the role

We are looking for a Telephone Time Host to join our radio staff. This is a 0.75 FTE position with scheduled hours of 8 AM–1 PM, Monday through Friday, plus additional hours as needed or as proficiency allows. The role offers room for advancement.

Responsibilities

• Host “Telephone Time,” the Upper Peninsula’s longest-running continuous local talk show (9 AM–12 PM), by:
  • Engaging in great conversations with your audience
  • Welcoming guests in-studio or by phone to promote their product, service, or event
  • Preparing for interviews while letting your curiosity connect with listeners
  • Using studio tools to keep content fresh
  • Treating each caller as a friend
  • Maintaining a cool demeanor during live radio multitasking
  • Collaborating with fellow employees to complete tasks
  • Having backup material ready to sustain conversation
• Coordinate live sponsor schedules and calls, live/recorded copy, mailbag/event listings, garage sale lists, and X feed updates during the show (assistance provided by the Telephone Time assistant)
• Occasionally host the Saturday edition of the show
• Perform additional duties as needed, such as:
  • Prerecording interviews or segments outside typical show hours
  • Taking on additional board hours when necessary
  • Providing voiceovers for the production department

Requirements

• Excellent organizational and time management skills
• Strong diligence and accuracy
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
• Experience working with desktop/laptop applications
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• A great personality for public interaction
