On-Call Host/Hostess

About the role

A Host, or Greeter, is responsible for welcoming customers to a food service environment and ensuring that they are seated and receive attentive service. Duties include maintaining a waitlist of patrons during busy meal service, passing out menus, and accepting phone calls.

Responsibilities

• Greet guests as they enter, and put them on a waiting list as necessary.
• Provide guests with menus and answer any initial questions.
• Seat guests at tables or in waiting areas.
• Assign guests to tables they prefer, while keeping table rotation in mind so that servers receive the right number of customers.
• Engage with guests to ensure they're happy with food and service.
• Respond to complaints and help resolve them.
• Answer phone calls, take reservations, and answer questions.
• Demonstrate knowledge of the menu.
• Assist with other positions in the restaurant as needed.
• Provide great customer service.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Ability to provide top-notch customer service in a fast-paced environment.
• Positive attitude and ability to work well under pressure with all restaurant staff.
• Ability to produce high-quality work while unsupervised.
• Able to work in a standing position for long periods of time.
• Able to safely lift and easily maneuver trays of food when necessary.
• Willing to follow instructions and ask questions for clarification if needed.
• Able to handle money accurately and operate a point-of-sale system.
• Able to work in a busy restaurant environment.
• Restaurant experience a plus.

Physical Demands

• Ability to reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping.
• Stand, sit, or walk for an extended period.
• Ability to move over sloping, uneven, or slippery surfaces.
• Ability to move up and down ladders, stairs, and service ramps.
• Must be able to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
• Ability to stand during entire shift.

Schedule

Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, employees may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the hotel. Must be flexible to work various days and various shifts of the week to include weekends, holidays, days, nights, and overnight. Regular attendance is essential to the successful performance of this position.

Pay

Anticipated base pay range: $28.12–$29.71 per hour. Pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and overall experience.
