About the Role

Reports to and is under the general supervision of the Manager and/or Assistant Manager of MS7, the Telemetry Technician monitors cardiac rhythms, records pertinent data and reports abnormalities to the medical team.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor cardiac rhythms based on physician orders and under the supervision of registered nurses.
  • Record pertinent data and report abnormalities to the medical team in accordance with established protocols.
  • Apply knowledge of age-related differences and needs of patients in specific populations from neonate through adolescence.
  • Demonstrate cultural sensitivity in all interactions with coworkers, patients, and family members.
  • Demonstrate support for the mission, values, and goals of the organization through behaviors consistent with Connecticut Children’s standards.
  • Understand and follow Connecticut Children's policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of a telemetry technician program with proof of certificate or equivalent documentation.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of Connecticut Children’s Cardiac Monitor Technician Training within 30 days of hire.
  • Minimum 1 year of related job experience working in a telemetry role.
  • Basic familiarity with computers and experience navigating basic web-based applications and Microsoft Office.

Qualifications

  • CPR/BLS for Healthcare Providers from the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross is preferred at time of hire.
  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training certification required within 3 months of hire and maintained thereafter.
  • Ability to learn basic medical terminology, mathematics, and measurements.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Ability to maintain quality and safety standards.
  • Learn and follow established protocols.
  • Demonstrate competency in reading and interpreting cardiac rhythms.
  • Demonstrate competency in cardiac telemetry monitoring.

About The Team

MS7 is a fast-paced medical-surgical floor with 28 beds where our average patient turnaround and length of stay is between 24 hours to 3 days. We specialize in the care of children with complex Neurology, Cardiology, Pulmonary, and Urology conditions, as well as other general medical ailments. Our team is family-oriented and prides itself on teamwork, discovery, advocacy, communication, and providing compassionate care. We work closely with a multitude of specialty areas, including both the Neonatal and Pediatric Intensive Care Units. We strive to provide patient- and family-centered care that incorporates family input to ensure a comprehensive plan of care. Our goal is to build strong, trusting relationships with our patients and families.
