ECU Health Beaufort Hospital serves as a campus of ECU Health Medical Center. The 142-bed full-service hospital in Washington has earned national designation as a Primary Stroke Center. It features a 16-bed emergency department serving approximately 25,000 patients annually, the Marion L. Shepard Cancer Center offering chemotherapy and radiation therapy, general medical and surgical services, operative services, a women’s birthing center, rehabilitation services, and outpatient clinics.

About the role

The Telemetry Technician is responsible for monitoring cardiac rhythms, documentation, and notifying the primary nurse of abnormal rhythms. The role includes desk functions such as answering telephones and patient call systems, replenishing charts, and performing secretarial duties integral to the nursing unit. While not directly responsible for patient care, the Technician ensures patient care is accomplished and serves as the pivot person in communications. If certified as a Nursing Assistant, the Technician may work in this capacity when the telemetry census is two or less, in the absence of a scheduled Nursing Assistant. The role involves modifying and delivering care specific to the age, growth, and development of patients, including adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor cardiac rhythms and document findings.
  • Notify primary nurse of abnormal rhythms.
  • Perform desk functions, including answering telephones and patient call systems.
  • Replenish charts and maintain patient documentation.
  • Serve as the pivot person in unit communications.
  • Work as a Nursing Assistant (if certified) when the telemetry census is two or less.
  • Ensure patient care is accomplished, even if not directly responsible for it.

Requirements

  • Completion of a medical terminology course or demonstrated competency.
  • Completion of an EKG Interpretation course.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR certification.

Pay

Pay range: $18.00 - $21.12 per hour, determined based on experience.
