About the role
The Telecom Design Engineer position at Arup is part of a multidisciplinary team responsible for designing and delivering Information Technology and Communication (ITC), low-voltage systems, and infrastructure for Data Centers and various building types.
Responsibilities
- Design of systems including structured cabling, wired and wireless networks, telephony, electronic security systems, and controls.
- Coordinate with electrical, mechanical, structural, and fire/life safety teams to deliver fully integrated, resilient, and scalable data center designs.
- Deliver detailed design drawings, systems integration, and specification development.
- Participate in local and national mission-critical or data center professional associations to stay current with industry trends.
- Provide construction phase services such as site visits, submittal review, and RFIs.
- Maintain quality relationships with vendors and external partners.
- Design active networks, RF modeling software, DAS, building automation systems, electronic security systems, and IoT.
- Design outside plant, campus infrastructure, and wide area network coordination.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Technology, Architectural Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related fields.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in engineering or architectural industry, demonstrating proficiency in 3D BIM software – Revit and Microsoft Office.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in the consulting and technology design industries, including detailed structured cabling system design.
- Minimum 1 year of professional experience designing ICT systems, with a focus on data center or mission-critical facilities.
- Experience in BICSI, TIA, and NEC standards.
- Excellent interpersonal skills for team building and client-facing roles.
Qualifications
- Preferred: Experience with active network design, RF modeling software, DAS, building automation systems, electronic security systems, and IoT.
- Experience designing outside plant, campus infrastructure, and wide area network coordination.
Skills
- Proficiency in 3D BIM software – Revit and Microsoft Office.
- Experience in structured cabling system design.
- Knowledge of BICSI, TIA, and NEC standards.
- Ability to coordinate with multiple teams and stakeholders.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
