Telecom Design Engineer

The role

Joining Arup, a leading consultancy shaping a better world, as a Telecom Design Engineer. This position involves designing and delivering IT and communication systems, coordinating with various teams, and participating in professional associations.

Responsibilities

• Design of systems including structured cabling, wired and wireless networks, telephony, electronic security systems, controls, and general applications of technology to the built environment.
• Closely coordinate with electrical, mechanical, structural, and fire/life safety teams, as well as project managers, to deliver fully integrated, resilient, and scalable data center designs.
• Deliver detailed design drawings, systems integration, and specification development.
• Participate in local and national mission-critical or data center professional associations to stay current with industry trends.
• Provide construction phase services such as site visits, submittal review, and RFIs.
• Coordinate with clients and the broader team.
• Maintain quality relationships with vendors and external partners.
• Design active networks, RF modeling software, DAS, building automation systems, electronic security systems, and IoT.
• Design outside plant, campus infrastructure, and wide area network coordination.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Technology, Architectural Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related majors.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in engineering or architectural industry, demonstrating proficiency in 3D BIM software – Revit and Microsoft Office.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in the consulting and technology design industries, including detailed structured cabling system design.
• Minimum 1 year of professional experience designing ICT systems, with a focus on data center or mission-critical facilities.
• Experience in the application of BICSI, TIA, and NEC.
• Excellent interpersonal skills for team building and client-facing roles.

Preferred

• Experience with active network design, RF modeling software, DAS, building automation systems, electronic security systems, and IoT.
• Experience designing outside plant, campus infrastructure, and wide area network coordination.

The hiring range for this role in New York is $100,000 to $125,000 per year, with benefits not included in the base salary. For candidates performing work outside of New York, the range will differ.
