Teen & Community Services Librarian

About the role

We’re looking for an energetic, creative, and community-minded librarian to lead teen services while helping expand outreach across our vibrant, engaged community. We serve a rural community of about 18,000 people who love their library. Our programs are busy, our partnerships are strong, and our staff genuinely enjoys working together. We also have received a grant to develop a designated teen center. This is your chance to help build a meaningful community service that will have a lasting impact on the community.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and lead engaging programs for teens (ages 13–17)
  • Build strong relationships with local schools, organizations, and community partners
  • Provide outreach services beyond the library walls at local school and community events
  • Help develop and maintain a relevant, appealing teen collection
  • Create welcoming spaces where teens feel comfortable and respected
  • Provide creative input in the planning and development of the new teen center
  • Assist with library-wide programming and initiatives for all ages
  • Provide excellent customer service at public service desks

Physical Requirements

  • Speak clearly and hear people of all ages, including small children
  • Move, bend, and stay active during programs
  • Lift up to 25 lbs. (books, program supplies, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications

  • MLS/MLIS from an ALA-accredited program (recent graduates encouraged to apply)
  • Must love teens and have a passion for working with teens and understanding of their needs and interests
  • Creativity, flexibility, and a willingness to try new ideas
  • Strong written and verbal communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to work some evenings and occasional Saturdays
  • Experience with programming, outreach, or teen services is a plus
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Comfort with public speaking and group facilitation
  • Proficiency with common office and digital tools
  • Familiarity with social media platforms
