About the role
We’re looking for an energetic, creative, and community-minded librarian to lead teen services while helping expand outreach across our vibrant, engaged community. We serve a rural community of about 18,000 people who love their library. Our programs are busy, our partnerships are strong, and our staff genuinely enjoys working together. We also have received a grant to develop a designated teen center. This is your chance to help build a meaningful community service that will have a lasting impact on the community.
Responsibilities
- Plan and lead engaging programs for teens (ages 13–17)
- Build strong relationships with local schools, organizations, and community partners
- Provide outreach services beyond the library walls at local school and community events
- Help develop and maintain a relevant, appealing teen collection
- Create welcoming spaces where teens feel comfortable and respected
- Provide creative input in the planning and development of the new teen center
- Assist with library-wide programming and initiatives for all ages
- Provide excellent customer service at public service desks
Physical Requirements
- Speak clearly and hear people of all ages, including small children
- Move, bend, and stay active during programs
- Lift up to 25 lbs. (books, program supplies, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications
- MLS/MLIS from an ALA-accredited program (recent graduates encouraged to apply)
- Must love teens and have a passion for working with teens and understanding of their needs and interests
- Creativity, flexibility, and a willingness to try new ideas
- Strong written and verbal communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to work some evenings and occasional Saturdays
- Experience with programming, outreach, or teen services is a plus
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
- Comfort with public speaking and group facilitation
- Proficiency with common office and digital tools
- Familiarity with social media platforms
