Job Summary

This position is responsible for direct supervision of teens and implementing planned activities.

Education, Training And Experience

  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
  • Must work well with teens and understand the YMCA, its goals, and how it operates as a local, national, and international movement.
  • Must have a High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Upon hire, must complete Intro to the Ys Cause & Culture, Y's Way to Service & Engagement, and I Hear You: Service with CARE.
  • Within 90 days of hire, Preventing Sexual Abuse Between Young Children, Principles of Youth Development, Youth Affirmations: Distinguishing Between Praise and Encouragement, and Foundations of Listen First trainings required.
  • Within 6 months of hire, Engaging with Families training required.
  • Get SMART, CPR, AED and First Aid certification preferred.

Physical And/Or Mental Requirements

  • May be required to lift and carry up to 50 lbs in sports equipment and other items.
  • May be required to stand for extended periods of time while performing job functions.
  • Give and receive detailed instructions.
  • Required to maintain physical endurance for extended periods of time, in all types of weather conditions.
  • Must be alert at all times.
  • Must possess acceptable hearing and visual capabilities in order to monitor environment and teen's well being.
  • Must possess auditory and verbal capabilities to effectively communicate with teens, parents and staff.

Job Duties

  • Takes responsibility for the leadership and guidance of a group of teens.
  • Acquaints teens with rules, activities, daily schedules and area.
  • Takes responsibility for the safety/welfare of each teen.
  • Keep track of Teen Attendance.
  • Reports all accidents to the Supervisor, and completely fills out proper health log and/or incident form.
  • Plans, organizes, and implements activity plans for special interest activities.
  • Create a nurturing and safe environment by reporting suspicious activity that may lead to child abuse or may violate the code of conduct.
  • Keep supplies organized, maintain and clean facility and care for equipment.
  • Takes responsibility for helping maintain good working conditions, inventory, and clean-up after all activities.
