Examination Schedule

Oral Exam: qualified candidates will be notified of the testing date five days prior to the examination. The oral exam (weight 100 %) will be conducted to appraise training, education, experience, interest and personal fitness for the position. Applicants must attain at least a 70 % score on each phase of the exam process. The Human Resources Division may solely conduct an appraisal of application materials should there be an insufficient number of candidates to warrant an oral examination.

Minimum Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree, including fifteen (15) semester or twenty‑five (25) quarter units in computer science or management information systems, AND three (3) years of full‑time paid experience in programming, systems analysis and design, telecommunications, and/or network administration, one (1) year of which must have been in a lead or project management position in a network, application development, or telecommunications environment.
• Completion of sixty (60) semester or ninety (90) quarter units from an accredited college or university, including fifteen (15) semester or twenty‑five (25) quarter units in computer science or management information systems, AND five (5) years of full‑time paid experience in programming, systems analysis and design, telecommunications, and/or network administration, one (1) year of which must have been in a lead or project management position in a network, application development, or telecommunications environment.
• Completion of an accredited technical or vocational training program in computer science, computer office automation technology, computer systems technology or a closely related field, AND five (5) years of full‑time paid experience in programming, systems analysis and design, telecommunications, and/or network administration, one (1) year of which must have been in a lead or project management position in a network, application development, or telecommunications environment.
• Seven (7) years of full‑time paid experience in programming, systems analysis and design, telecommunications, and/or network administration, one (1) year of which must have been in a lead or project management position in a network, application development, or telecommunications environment.
• Two (2) years as a Senior Systems Analyst, Telecommunications Network Administrator, Network Systems Administrator, or Local Area Network Systems Administrator in the Kern County classification system. Qualifying experience must have been within the last eight (8) years.

Valid Class “C” California driver’s license is required at the time of appointment.

Additional Information

• Admittance to the examination requires a valid government‑issued photographic identification; applicants unable to present proper ID must arrange with the Human Resources Division prior to the test date.
• A background check may be conducted for this classification.
• Following an offer of employment, candidates may be required to submit to post‑offer medical and drug screening tests at County expense.
• The examination will establish an eligible list from which an immediate appointment will be made to the Information Technology Services Department; other permanent and temporary appointments will be made as needed.
• Successful candidates will remain on the eligible list for twelve months unless specified otherwise by the Civil Service Commission.
