About the role
The Laser and Electro-Optics Branch at Goddard Space Flight Center focuses on developing advanced laser and electro-optic components for space flight instruments and systems. This role involves working on cutting-edge research projects under the guidance of experienced advisors.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to the development of laser and electro-optic components for space flight instruments and systems.
- Participate in research projects aligned with NASA's mission objectives in areas such as space science, Earth science, aeronautics, and exploration systems.
- Utilize state-of-the-art facilities and equipment to conduct experiments and test prototypes.
- Collaborate with other scientists and engineers to design, fabricate, and qualify laser and electro-optic components for space applications.
- Write and submit research proposals for funding opportunities.
Requirements
- Doctoral degree in a relevant field (e.g., physics, engineering, materials science).
- Strong background in laser and electro-optics, including experience with solid-state, fiber, and diode lasers.
- Experience with laser and laser system testing and qualification.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
Qualifications
- U.S. Citizenship, U.S. Lawful Permanent Resident (LPR), or eligibility for an Exchange Visitor J-1 visa status.
- Experience with solid-state, fiber, and diode lasers.
- Knowledge of laser and laser system testing and qualification.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
