About the role

CobbFendley is seeking an experienced SUE Technician in our Austin office. Responsibilities

  • Plan Production: Work independently to support Project Managers, Project Engineers, and Designers with technical design tasks for various projects. Utilize engineering and drafting software to complete assignments, such as generating plan and profile drawings to include cross-sections, underground utilities, etc. from survey files and/or record drawings.
  • Complete Redline Markups: Accurately incorporate review comments with minimal supervision. Prepare intermediate manual or computer-aided design drawings, cost estimates, bills of materials, plus required documents and reports for construction and maintenance projects.
  • Interpret Survey Notes: Identify potential errors or inconsistencies and correct them proactively. Maintain compliance with company standards and safety requirements.
  • Communication + Collaboration: Serve as a resource to the design staff on matters concerning drafting practices and procedures. Work with supervisor, project manager, mentors, and various internal personnel to complete assignments within discipline and other disciplines.
  • Training, Learning + Advancement: Develop skills in interpreting survey data, utility records, and engineering plans.
  • Client + Internal Satisfaction: Apply the client’s standards, guidelines, specifications, practices, and procedures and/or appropriate industry standards in preparing layouts. Work with internal clients daily, problem solve minor issues, and escalate concerns when needed.
  • Technical Support: Provide CAD support for Subsurface Utility Engineering projects, as workload dictates. Understand civil engineering and utility symbols and terminology with respect to preparation of plan & profile drawings for utility systems located within public rights-of-way. Have a functional knowledge of MicroStation, InRoads, AutoCAD Civil 3D and other applicable software to the field.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Surveying, or related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in SUE surveying and mapping.
  • Skills: Proficiency in engineering and drafting software, ability to interpret survey notes and utility records, strong attention to detail, excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Qualifications

  • Physical Requirements: Seated and standing position, mobility, neck movement, repetitive motion, arm movement, object handling, cognitive requirements.
  • Environmental Factors: Office conditions, outdoor conditions, safety and equipment use, driving and vehicle use.

Pay

Salary range: $60,000 - $80,000 annually.

Schedule

This is a full-time position, generally 40 hours per week, with occasional overtime as needed. Operating hours and lunch hours may differ based on project workload, primarily for field staff. Work location flexibility is available once the training period is complete.
