Technician - Shop

About the role

The Shop Technician position involves receiving, storing, picking, and transporting materials both within and outside the warehouse. This role supports fire life safety operations and customer service.

Responsibilities

• Perform hydrostatic tests or 6-year internal inspections on fire extinguishers.
• Assist walk-in customers with fire extinguisher needs.
• Deliver fire extinguishers and cabinets to customers.
• Maintain cleanliness of the shop and extinguisher holding areas.
• Move fire extinguishers, fire sprinkler pipes, and other mechanical devices.
• Identify and inspect received inventory; verify labels.
• Drive company vehicles and transport items in and out of trucks.
• Clean workstations and surrounding warehouse areas.
• Assist with inventory audits.
• Transport items via truck; travel time and location may vary.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• 1 year of Fire Life Safety Industry experience, specifically within a shop environment, preferred.
• 1 year of professional computer skills, preferred.
• Inventory control experience, preferred.
• Forklift certification, license, or experience, required.
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
• Must comply with SFS’s Drug and Alcohol policy and Background screening requirements, including customer-specific requirements based on contractual agreements.
• Occasional travel up to 30%.

• Familiarity with business intelligence systems, Sage 300 CRE, or similar, preferred.
• Experience with Salesforce preferred.

Physical & Work Environment

• Frequently required to bend, ascend/descend step stools, ladders, and stairs; kneel; lift up to 50 lbs; reach above and below shoulders; stand and walk for extended periods.
• Must be able to see in color, at close and far distances, peripheral vision, depth perception, and adjust focus.
• Occasionally required to balance, crouch, drive, kneel, lift over 50 lbs, sit, stoop, twist, and work at heights.
• Regularly work outside and be exposed to hot/cold temperatures, dust, fumes, chemicals, electrical hazards, and noise.
• Occasionally work indoors in an office setting, alone, or with others.
• Must consistently wear all appropriate personal protective equipment as required by company safety policies.
