About the role
The Shop Technician position at Summit Fire & Security involves receiving materials, storing them, picking items, moving and transporting them, assisting customers, keeping the shop and storage areas clean, and performing various other tasks.
Responsibilities
- Perform hydrostatic test or 6-year internal inspections on fire extinguishers.
- Assist with walk-in customers' fire extinguishers.
- Occasionally deliver fire extinguishers and cabinets to customers.
- Help keep shop and extinguisher holding areas clean.
- Frequently moves fire extinguishers, fire sprinkler pipes, and other mechanical devices.
- Identifies and inspects received inventory.
- Verifies labels.
- Driving company vehicles, as assigned.
- Transport items in and out of trucks.
- Cleaning of workstation and surrounding areas in warehouse/shop.
- Aid with Inventory audits.
- Transport items via Truck travel time and location may vary, upon request.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- 1 year Fire Life Safety Industry experience specifically within the Shop area, preferred.
- 1 years of professional computer skills, preferred.
- Inventory control experience, preferred.
- Forklift certification, license, or experience, required.
- Must comply with SFS's Drug and Alcohol policy and Background screening requirements, which may also include customer specific requirements based on contractual agreement.
- Efficient time management skills, developed organizational skills, and ability to prioritize initiatives and business goals.
- Demonstrated critical thinking skills.
- Collaborator and ability to work with all levels of employees.
- Strong diligence and accuracy.
- Effective communication skills.
- Familiarity with analytical use of business intelligence systems, Sage 300 CRE, or similar, preferred.
- Experience with Salesforce preferred.
Physical & Work Environment Requirements

- Physical Requirements: frequent bending, ascending/descending step stools, ladders and stairs, kneeling, lifting up to 50 lbs, reaching above and below shoulders, standing and walking for extended periods of time.
- Work Environment: regular exposure to hot/cold temperatures, dust, fumes, chemicals, electrical hazards, and noise. Occasional indoor work in an office setting, working alone and with others. Personal protective equipment must be worn as required by company safety policies.
