Purpose

The Shop Technician is responsible for completing basic to extensive repairs on all furniture product lines to ensure product is returned to inventory and is available to sell.

General Description of duties

  • Reads work orders, shipping orders, and demonstrates ability to follow verbal/written instructions from lead, supervisor, or manager.
  • Determines the correct method for repair based on diagnoses of various levels of product damage to surface, mechanical, structural, or fabric/leather.
  • Repairs scratches, gouges, or basic structural issues with carpentry and or basic painting/sanding.
  • Re-upholsters various items including chairs, sofas, headboards, ensuring same-as-new quality whenever possible.
  • Safely operates required machinery and equipment and/or chemicals including saws, spray paints, lacquers, drills, air hoses, and other appropriate tools while following all safety guidelines.
  • Safely transports, loads, and unloads materials and products to designated areas utilizing pallets, hand trucks, carts, dollies, shelving, and other devices.
  • Organizes warehouse and work area for safety, cleanliness, and order at all times.
  • Works independently and as part of a team in a Distribution Center/Warehouse environment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Ability to safely lift up to 50 pounds while loading/unloading furniture and operating powered equipment, hand trucks, and carts.
  • Experience working with/around powered equipment, warehouse machinery, and hand/power tools preferred.
  • Experience working in the furniture industry or with furniture, including leather and wood-grain materials preferred.
  • Work related to cabinetry, furniture construction and re-construction of damaged furniture items.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in a carpentry, repair shop, or manufacturing environment where fabrication skills are needed.
  • Positive working attitude.
  • Available to work a flexible schedule.
  • Able to work over-time as needed.
