About the role
Perform mechanical services on new and rental equipment for the Service Department at job sites or in the shop.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair equipment in the shop or at customer sites, including rebuilding components or complete rebuilds.
- Initiate and complete all associated paperwork for service and repair, including service reports, time tracking, parts charged and returned, serial numbers, and equipment types.
- Maintain customer satisfaction by understanding needs and time constraints, completing repairs safely and efficiently, and delivering superior quality.
- Maintain company-issued vehicles, equipment, tools, and work areas in good working order, clean, and professional in appearance.
- Perform related duties such as maintaining safety and housekeeping at the work site.
- Clean, grease, and check fluid levels on equipment before placing it on the ready line.
- Complete internal shop repair orders for each piece of equipment as work is performed.
- Perform service calls in a timely and efficient manner as directed by the shop lead and coordinators.
- Keep the shop, service line, and equipment staging areas clean, organized, and professional.
- Adhere to directions from managers and lead mechanics regarding repairs and service calls.
- Properly tag all equipment before placing it in the ready line.
- Store equipment and vehicles appropriately to prevent property damage.
- Complete special assignments or projects from the manager on a timely basis.
Requirements
- High school education or equivalent with a technical background or additional training (e.g., vocational school with studies in diesel equipment repair).
- Minimum of 3 years of mechanical experience with heavy equipment, preferably with a rental company or Caterpillar, or in a role with working knowledge of hydraulics, powertrain, electronic/electrical systems, etc.
- Good decision-making and creative thinking skills.
- Strong problem-solving, diagnostic, and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, and basic warranty administration.
- Moderate computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office and database systems.
- Good customer service skills, basic prospecting skills, and the ability to meet or exceed customer expectations.
- Strong listening and verbal communication skills.
- Working knowledge of safety rules, laws, and regulations related to engine service, hydraulics, electrical systems, and tooling procedures.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work with little supervision and achieve required goals.
- Ability to work overtime and weekends.
- Professionalism in appearance and courteous treatment of peers, subordinates, and customers.
- Valid driver’s license due to traveling obligations; may be required to obtain a CDL.
