Technician, QA Lab I

The College Programs at Southwire provide valuable experience to students pursuing a bachelor’s degree or higher, offering meaningful, project-based work that builds on classroom learning. Students receive a project at the beginning of the summer and present it at the end-of-summer project expo.
About the role
This position supports Rod Mill and Wire and Cable Mill Testing Requirements, performing tests accurately and in a timely manner. The role requires constant walking throughout the facility to collect samples and standing for the majority of the shift while performing job duties in the QA Lab.
Responsibilities
- Support Rod Mill Testing Requirements, perform tests accurately and timely
- Support Wire and Cable Mill Testing Requirements
- Work effectively with basic tasks and with little to no supervision
- Make basic judgement calls based on specifications and standards
- Work safely at all times and maintain a clean and organized work area during 12-hour shifts
- Follow all company environmental rules/procedures and handle materials to minimize environmental impact
- Adhere to prescribed safety rules/procedures to prevent injury and maintain safe equipment and conditions
- Use the company’s ISO Quality System documentation to guide daily quality activities
- Participate in problem-solving teams and collaborate in a group setting
Requirements
- Minimum of a High School Diploma
- Good reading, writing, and basic mathematics/problem-solving skills
- Basic skills in MS Word and MS Excel
- Ability to work in a group setting and participate in problem-solving teams
- Experience with using calipers, micrometers, and small scales
- Ability to perform basic tasks and tests during short periods
Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year of wire and cable manufacturing or testing experience (preferred)
Schedule
Night D shift (6:45pm – 7am)
Pay
$26.12 – $27.25 per hour
