Technician, Pulmonary Function Lab

About the role

This position is primarily responsible for managing and coordinating the full scope of activities of both the Pulmonary Function and Blood Gas Laboratories.

Responsibilities

• Performs all Blood Gas and Pulmonary Function Testing
• Participates in weekly meetings with the Director of Respiratory Therapy
• Participates in employee continuing education activities
• Performs arterial and/or venous blood gas analysis
• Performs pulmonary function studies and routine studies when necessary
• Re-calibrates and records calibrations for all equipment used for analysis when necessary
• Performs other duties as required by the Director of Respiratory Therapy
• Responsible for all equipment maintenance
• Reports all lab results in Epic
• Follows department procedures for the recording of PFTs performed
• Responsible for the cleaning and disinfecting of all equipment used in testing and other procedures

Requirements

• H.E.W. certificate in chemistry
• Experience in Pulmonary Function equipment and patient testing
• Experience in Blood Gas Analysis and maintenance of Blood Gas equipment and/or Clinical Laboratory experience
• N.Y.C. knowledge

Skills

• Proficiency with Office PCs, Desktops, and Laptop software, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
• Bilingual preferred
• Good interpersonal skills
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing

Physical Requirements

• Prolonged periods of standing, walking, talking, sitting, hearing, and bending throughout the work day
• May include some repetitive motions
