Technician Power Systems

About the role

General Atomics (GA) and its affiliated companies specialize in high-technology systems development, including the nuclear fuel cycle, remotely piloted aircraft, airborne sensors, and advanced electric, electronic, wireless, and laser technologies. This position involves diagnosing, repairing, testing, and maintaining high-voltage pulsed power systems, DC power supplies, transformers, switchgear, and capacitor banks in a safety-critical environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine preventative maintenance on power systems equipment
• Diagnose and repair complex analog and digital circuit boards down to the component level (e.g., capacitors, ICs, resistors) using schematics, wiring diagrams, and test equipment
• Collaborate with engineers to resolve recurring or complex issues, including reverse-engineering legacy or custom-built boards with limited documentation
• Conduct functional testing and verification after repairs
• Maintain accurate documentation of repairs, failures, and test results
• Assist in process improvements and reliability enhancements

Requirements

• Typically requires an associate's degree or equivalent with five or more years of experience (may substitute equivalent experience in lieu of education)
• 3–7+ years of hands-on experience in electronic board repair
• Strong knowledge of analog and digital electronics
• Ability to read and interpret schematics and technical manuals
• Experience with soldering and rework (through-hole components)
• Experience using oscilloscopes, multimeters, and signal generators
• Familiarity with diagnostic and test equipment
• Good documentation and communication skills
• Ability to work in a team-oriented environment
• Capable of troubleshooting 600VAC and DC equipment and circuit boards
• Willingness to work with medium voltage equipment up to 35kV
• Capability and willingness to learn to troubleshoot systems ranging from low milliamp signals to several thousand amps
• Willingness to perform work on energized (live) equipment when required, following all safety procedures
• Must follow all safety guidelines, including strict adherence to Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures

Skills

• Experience using logic analyzers
• Familiarity with PLC systems and basic controls troubleshooting
• Knowledge of PCB design fundamentals and failure analysis methods

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

• Willingness to perform mechanical and physical tasks as required, including torquing, lifting over 30 lbs, and performing low-resistance measurements
• Ability to work at heights, climb on equipment (e.g., reactors), and operate in confined or tight spaces
• Flexibility to adjust work schedules based on operational needs

Pay

Hourly salary range: $60,670 - $90,198
