Technician - Lunar Avionics | A Shift

About the role

This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which includes Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. It also involves Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

Responsibilities

• Provides hands-on support to Engineering/Production/Manufacturing by performing activities such as test, check-out, modification, fabrication, and assembly of RF Antennas, IR/Visible Light cameras and LIDAR systems for the Lunar Vehicles.
• Work may include PCBA assembly or rework, internal cable harness fabrication, precision assembly of optical/laser components and general mechanical assembly.
• Work is performed from schematics, diagrams, layouts, or defined plans to perform testing, checkout, and trouble-shooting functions.
• Performs operational test and fault isolation on systems and equipment.
• Aids in determining methods or actions to remedy malfunctions.
• Performs work in both Laboratory setting as well as work on manufacturing floor or on vehicle depending on manufacturing needs.
• Serves both internal and external customers across multiple systems and multiple platforms; each Technician is a valued part of the chain.
• A focus on safety, collaborative teamwork, and quality allows us to work together to determine the best path forward, balancing speed and safety to create high-quality components that will propel future astronauts and payloads into space for the improvement of mankind.

Requirements

• Familiarity working in an ESD EPA and with tool control/accountability processes.
• Experience using standard electronics assembly tools, hand soldering and basic electronic test equipment (multimeters and power supplies).
• Experience with applying torque to fasteners/components.
• Fabricating, terminating, and repair/testing of wire harnesses.
• 3 or more years’ experience in Aerospace Avionics or related fields.
• Experience inspecting and certifying work performed to relevant standards and specifications.
• Attention to detail and passion for space.
• Able to lift 50 lbs.
• Able to work a 40-hour work week (4x10’s) with occasional overtime to support launch schedules.
• Experience with application and removal of polymerics (staking, potting. encapsulation and conformal coating).

Qualifications

• Experience with RF assemblies, camera optical systems and LIDAR systems.
• Clean Room Experience; specifically, Class 7 Operations.
• Certification in and/or knowledge of IPC standards for assembly and inspection to include J-STD/J-STD Space, 610, 7711/7721 Rework and 620/620 Space Addendum.
• Laser experience: similar to optical system, laser safety, and laser output characterization measurements.
• Experience and capability to interface with Microsoft Office Suite, electronic work orders and configuration management systems.
• Experience with documenting non-conformances and carrying out dispositioned repairs.

Skills

• Technical proficiency in work such as soldering, component-level board work, mechanical assembly, and assembly wiring.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs.
• Attention to detail and passion for space.
