Technician, Locates

Job Summary

Ezee Fiber is seeking a dedicated and skilled Locates Technician to identify and mark the location of EZEE Fiber's underground lines. This role is crucial for protecting our underground infrastructure and ensuring safe excavation practices.

Essential Functions

• Utility Identification: Use specialized equipment and tools, such as pipe and cable locators, to accurately identify the presence and depth of underground utilities.
• Marking and Flagging: Clearly mark the positions of identified utilities on the ground using appropriate marking materials like paint, flags, or stakes.
• Collaboration: Work closely with construction crews, contractors, engineers, and other stakeholders to coordinate utility locating activities and ensure projects proceed safely and efficiently.
• Software Usage: Utilize software programs such as Konterra and 3GIS mapping to track, identify, and report locate tickets.
• Documentation: Document work completed with quality, accurate, and descriptive photos.
• On Call Support: Respond to after-hours emergency tickets as scheduled.
• Continuous Learning: Stay updated with the latest utility locating techniques, equipment, and safety practices.
• Customer Service: Demonstrate excellent communication and customer service skills when interacting with clients.

Qualifications

• Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent; technical certifications in fiber optics are a plus. Six to two years of experience or training in utility locating, construction, surveying, or a related field is advantageous.
• Technical Skills: Familiarity with utility maps, blueprints, and survey drawings is beneficial. Ability to operate utility locating equipment and interpret data accurately.
• Physical Fitness: Strong physical fitness and the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Skills: Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, self-motivation, proficiency in basic computer applications, effective communication, and adherence to safety protocols.

Physical, Field, or Environmental Requirements

• Work outdoors in various weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, or wind.
• Stand, walk, bend, stoop, and kneel for extended periods of time.
• Lift, carry, push, or pull objects weighing up to 20 pounds as needed.
• Tolerate exposure to noise, dust, fumes, and uneven or slippery surfaces.
• Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) during all applicable tasks.

Travel Requirements

• Standard daily travel to assigned territories is required for this position (up to 30% of the time within a 10-mile radius).
