Locate Technician

About the role

Locate Technicians are responsible for accurately locating underground facilities including, but not limited to, telephone communication lines, electric power lines, cable television lines, gas lines, fiber optic lines, water lines, and sewer lines. This position is a key component to ensure compliance with client and state requirements.

Responsibilities

• Observing, locating, marking, and documenting underground and exposed utility locations.
• Using multiple methods to locate underground facilities by using a transmitter and hooking up to a buried facility, pedestal etc.
• Working in and walking over all types of terrain in and around construction zones and residential, commercial, industrial and rural areas in all types of weather conditions.
• Interpreting job order tickets, blueprints and maps to efficiently route and perform duties.
• Performing locates and emergency/on-call locates during regular, overtime and holiday hours as necessary to meet customer needs.
• Communicating with management team, contractors, and utility customers to ensure a damage-free environment.
• Performing all work in a timely, professional, and efficient manner while effectively communicating and interacting with customers, co-employees, and third parties.
• Having knowledge of technology and tools needed.
• Being able to work with others and in a supervised team environment.

Qualifications

• A High School Diploma or equivalency (GED).
• A State issued drivers license.
• The ability to problem solve.
• The ability to read, interpret, and decipher multiple types of prints.
• Vacuum truck experience.
• A+ certification.
• The ability to lift over 50 lbs.
• The ability to walk/stand for multiple hours a day.
• Excellent communication skills.
• The ability to read and interrupt prints at a high level.
• To pass a Background screening (no violations within the last 5 years).
• To pass a DOT drug test.

Schedule

10 hour shift
Monday to Friday
On call
Weekends as needed

Education

A High School Diploma or equivalency (Required)

Experience

Computer skills: 1 year (Preferred)
Utility Locating: 1 year (Preferred)

License/Certification

A Driver's License (Required)
