Technician IV - Test
About the Role
As a Technician III in the Engineering, Science and Analysis (ESA) Strategic Capabilities Unit at BAE Systems Space and Mission Systems (SMS), you’ll be part of a dedicated team delivering innovative mission system solutions. The ESA unit focuses on high-impact technologies for customer missions, fostering a collaborative, cross-functional environment committed to innovation, integrity, and execution.
Responsibilities
- Conduct and support performance and functional tests on flight hardware, including electronic boards, antennas, and subsystems, during all phases of the hardware evolution process.
- Execute step-by-step test procedures, record and verify test data, and report out-of-tolerance conditions.
- Perform and assist in functional tests, monitor environmental testing parameters during Thermal, Vibration, EMI, and Acoustics testing.
- Provide technical support across shifts, including extended hours, weekends, and holidays.
- Troubleshoot product functionality and design issues, serving as a resource for complex problem resolution.
- Document specialized test setup configurations for consistent and repeatable results.
- Apply hands-on skills with mechanical tooling, jigs, and fixtures to construct test setups and support electrical, cryogenics, and electro-optical tests.
- Deliver work with attention to cost, schedule, reusability, and producibility.
- Provide direction and support to less experienced employees.
- Support IRAD development of assemblies and sub-assemblies, including proof of concept protocols.
- Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, Strategic Business Units, and the Company.
- Perform other duties as necessary.
Work Environment
This position requires regular on-site engagement, working five days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other locations may be required. Work is performed in an office, laboratory, cleanroom, or production floor environment.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent plus 3+ years of related experience.
- Higher-level related degrees (Bachelor’s or Master’s) may substitute for two years of experience each.
- Ability to coordinate team activities, predict and meet schedules, and resolve disconnects.
- Versatility and ability to contribute in high-energy team environments.
- Solid communication skills in a technical environment.
- Basic computer skills for data input and access.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds and work with heavy equipment, tooling, and fixtures.
- Trainable to obtain specialized certifications (Clean room, ESD, FOD, Crane, Solder, Splicing, Crimping, J-STD, IPC-610/620).
- Good mechanical aptitude and hand/eye coordination for working with hand tools.
- Familiarity with RF theory and S-parameters.
- General understanding of environmental testing (Thermal, Vibration, EMI, etc.).
- DoW Interim Secret clearance required to start; willingness to obtain higher clearance if needed.
- Valid US driver's license and satisfactory motor vehicle record.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in environmental testing (Thermal, Vibration, EMI, etc.).
- Experience with RF testing in anechoic chambers.
- Ability to operate RF test equipment (network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, signal generators).
- Experience in power testing.
- Proficiency in using graphical user interfaces (GUIs) for testing operations.
- Current, active Secret security clearance.
Pay
Full-Time Salary Range: $66,017 - $105,628. Individual salaries are determined by factors including business considerations, local market conditions, internal equity, and candidate qualifications.
