Job Description
The Bush Combat Development Complex invites applicants for a full-time Laboratory Technician who, under general supervision, performs a variety of clearly-defined technical functions that support academic projects, academic teaching, and research operations in the Research Integration Center. This is a high-demanding position that requires multitasking and continuous interaction with students, research engineers, and external customers. The Primary areas of focus may include: Machining and Fabrication, CNC mills & lathes, water jet, wire EDM, welding, and other basic Machining/Fabrication shop equipment. The technician will work as part of a team.
Responsibilities
- Machining and fabrication
- Designing with CAD, CAM (preferably SolidWorks, Mastercam)
- Evaluating and implementing lab safety requirements
- Required to work with diverse groups of customers
- Required to work in STEM environment
- Instruct and train lab users
- Read/interpret manufacturing prints
- Operate precision measurement and machine cutting tools
- Setup, organize, and maintain laboratory equipment and supplies
- Troubleshoot and repair equipment and machinery
- Construct, assemble, operate and modify equipment and machinery
- Maintain daily interaction with faculty, students and staff in a diverse learning environment
- Assist and facilitate lab users on academic or research projects
- Perform data entry and associated computer activities
- Assist with planning and supervising of technical operations, including supervision of student workers
- Maintain facility and common areas
- Maintain reference materials, SOS, calibration, safety data forms, shop/lab safety
- Program and set up CNC Mill & Lathes
- Source of shop supplies and equipment for purchasing
- Consult with students and faculty on manufacturing projects
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in relevant field or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Knowledge of laboratory equipment, scientific apparatus, and computer equipment
- Skilled in use of relevant laboratory equipment, scientific apparatus, and computer equipment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ensure attention to detail
- Able to lift and move up to 50lbs
- Able to stand for extended periods of time
- Able to multitask and work cooperatively with others
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with CNC manual machining equipment
- Experience in CAD/CAM Software (such as SolidWorks and Mastercam)
- Knowledge and skills in precision measuring instruments
- Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
