About the role

The Technician II - Structured Cabling must be able to perform the technical responsibilities of a Cable Installer and function as a lead member of a technical team. The Technician II - Structured Cabling will coordinate small groups of installers in the performance of daily workload including adherence to Company safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Install a work area outlet for floor or wall (terminate CAT 3 & CAT 5 jacks. Mount face plates and surface mount boxes correctly. Adhere to IES COMMERCIAL labeling standards).
  • Build closets (Mount and install backboards, cross connects, racks, patch panels, fiber optic and hardware).
  • Install grounding for racks, equipment and cable as required.
  • Complete all IDC connections (e.g. terminate 110/66 blocks and patch panels).
  • Perform testing: continuity test horizontal and riser cable; use of volt-ohmmeter; troubleshoot opens, crosses, shorts, and transpose pairs on horizontal and riser cable.
  • Identify active voice or data circuits.
  • Assume responsibility for effective performance of crew and provide necessary training, coordinate personnel and timeline to complete project.
  • Fully complete all IES Communications paperwork accurately and on time (timesheets, material transfers, work orders, change orders, tool transfers and others as required).
  • Adhere to and participate in all Company, customer and industry quality and safety standards and regulations.
  • Complete other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Self-motivated, positive in approach, professional and help create, develop, and implement project process improvement(s).
  • Promote the Company culture and mission to all employees, vendors, clients, and business partners.
  • Act as the Company liaison for interface with customer representative(s).
  • Possess proven problem-solving skills, critical thinking skills and the ability to effectively read and write.
  • Able to work at heights, on a ladder and in confined spaces, lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds.
  • Able to endure long periods of standing, walking, or working in inclement weather and possess sufficient physical strength and agility to lift and move heavy objects.
  • Able to see and distinguish different colors, read small print and hear and recognize audible signals such as dial tones.
  • Able to travel within the branch territory and/or regional territory as needed.
  • Mandatory regular attendance.
  • Adequate transportation to get to the jobsite.

Tools

  • Screwdriver (regular and Phillips), drywall saw, torpedo level, tape measure, snips (with belt sheath), pliers (needle nose and channel locks), hammer, wrench set, cable stripper, flashlight and gloves.
  • Trade Tools: Punch tool with 110 block and 66 block blade, 6/8 position combo crimp tool.

Education, Certification, License, And Skill Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalency.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in telecommunications or related technical field and demonstrate the ability to supervise others.
  • Proficient with the listed tools.
  • Proven skill level to interpret blueprints and other project documents, including but not limited to, specifications, reporting, and quality requirements.
  • Knowledge of the universal communications color codes.
  • Meet Company minimum driving standards.

Pay

Min USD $25.00/Hr. Max USD $30.00/Hr.

Schedule

Regular hours, may require some flexibility.
