Technician II - Structured Cabling
About the role
The Technician II - Structured Cabling must be able to perform the technical responsibilities of a Cable Installer and function as a lead member of a technical team. The Technician II - Structured Cabling will coordinate small groups of installers in the performance of daily workload including adherence to Company safety and quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Install a work area outlet for floor or wall (terminate CAT 3 & CAT 5 jacks. Mount face plates and surface mount boxes correctly. Adhere to IES COMMERCIAL labeling standards).
- Build closets (Mount and install backboards, cross connects, racks, patch panels, fiber optic and hardware).
- Install grounding for racks, equipment and cable as required.
- Complete all IDC connections (e.g. terminate 110/66 blocks and patch panels).
- Perform testing: continuity test horizontal and riser cable; use of volt-ohmmeter; troubleshoot opens, crosses, shorts, and transpose pairs on horizontal and riser cable.
- Identify active voice or data circuits.
- Assume responsibility for effective performance of crew and provide necessary training, coordinate personnel and timeline to complete project.
- Fully complete all IES Communications paperwork accurately and on time (timesheets, material transfers, work orders, change orders, tool transfers and others as required).
- Adhere to and participate in all Company, customer and industry quality and safety standards and regulations.
- Complete other responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
- Physical and Mental Requirements: Self-motivated, positive in approach, professional, and help create, develop, and implement project process improvement(s); promote the Company culture and mission to all employees, vendors, clients, and business partners; act as the Company liaison for interface with customer representative(s); possess proven problem-solving skills, critical thinking skills and the ability to effectively read and write; able to work at heights, on a ladder and in confined spaces, lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds; able to endure long periods of standing, walking, or working in inclement weather and possess sufficient physical strength and agility to lift and move heavy objects; able to see and distinguish different colors, read small print and hear and recognize audible signals such as dial tones; able to travel within the branch territory and/or regional territory as needed. Regular attendance is mandatory. Must have adequate transportation to get to the jobsite.
- Tools: Screwdriver (regular and Phillips), drywall saw, torpedo level, tape measure, snips (with belt sheath), pliers (needle nose and channel locks), hammer, wrench set, cable stripper, flashlight and gloves. Trade Tools: Punch tool with 110 block and 66 block blade, 6/8 position combo crimp tool.
- Education, Certification, License, And Skill Requirements: High School diploma or GED equivalency; minimum of two (2) years of experience in telecommunications or related technical field and demonstrate the ability to supervise others; possess and be proficient with the listed tools; proven skill level to interpret blueprints and other project documents, including but not limited to, specifications, reporting, and quality requirements; knowledge of the universal communications color codes; meet Company minimum driving standards.
